Updates

What's new for CoE leads

Recent Copilot app releases, filtered to what changes your rollout, training or governance.

The app ships often. This page picks out the changes a CoE lead should act on and says what to do about each one. For every change, read the public release notes.

Last reviewed against release v1.1.29 (October 13, 2026).

Governance and customization

Release What changed What to do
v1.1.28 Customize has a From your organization tab that shows plugins from enterprise-managed marketplaces. Publish your starter kit to a managed marketplace and tell people where to find it. See plugin marketplaces.
v1.1.29 Manage marketplaces moved to the bottom of the Add menu in Customize, and plugin search can filter by marketplace. Update screenshots and training steps that show where to add a marketplace.
v1.1.29 Sessions in a subfolder of a repository pick up that package’s instructions and skills. In monorepos, put package-specific instructions next to the package. See customizations.
v1.1.27 When your organization restricts MCP servers, the MCP registry hides servers that aren’t permitted and still shows installed and approved ones. Tell people that a missing server usually means it isn’t on the allowlist, and where to request it.
v1.1.27 Sessions in a newly added local repository stay on Always ask for tool permissions until you trust the repository. Cover the trust prompt in first-hour training so people don’t approve it without reading.
v1.1.24 The Featured tab in Customize respects your organization’s plugin marketplace policy and prefers your organization’s version of a plugin. Publish your own versions of popular plugins if you need changes to them.
v1.1.27 OAuth MCP servers have an Update authorization action. Add it to your support FAQ for expired connector sign-ins.
v1.1.26 Tool permissions can be set from the mode menu and with /permissions. Teach it in the verify guide as part of the first rung.
v1.1.23 A project setting and /sandbox run the agent’s shell commands in a local sandbox restricted to the session’s workspace. Decide your default for sensitive repositories. See sandboxes.

Automations and orchestration

Release What changed What to do
v1.1.29 Creating cloud automations is back, including repository event triggers and cloud schedules that run while your computer is off. Creation was paused in v1.1.27. Move team chores that should run while laptops are off to cloud automations. Check the cloud agent policy first.
v1.1.27 An interrupted coordinator session and its child sessions can be resumed. The Overview tab lists child agents with their status and pull requests. Mention it in office hours for people running long multi-session work. Point them to Run work in parallel.
v1.1.26 Child chats, plus running Bash and PowerShell snippets from a session. Add a child chat example to your champion training.
v1.1.28 Custom agents can suggest next steps. If you ship custom agents, add suggested next steps so new users know where to go.

Everyday use and accessibility

Release What changed What to do
v1.1.28 Auto model selection explains its choice, and files can be downloaded from the Files panel. Mention both in the first-week training.
v1.1.27 The artifact editor keeps version history. Tell document and deck authors they can roll back.
v1.1.24 Retry a turn with a different model, recall prompts with Ctrl or Cmd+R, and voice dictation is on by default. Add these tips to the fluency module.
v1.1.27 and v1.1.24 New accessibility preferences: Show underlines and increased contrast. Include them in your accessibility guidance and onboarding.

Keep this page current

A CoE champion can own this page. Once a week, read the new release notes and add anything that changes policy, training or support. A weekly automation can draft it for you:

Read the GitHub Copilot app release notes published in the last 7 days at github.com/github/app/releases.
List only changes that affect admins, security, training or support.
For each one, write one row: release, what changed, what a CoE lead should do.
